Bike Packing Around the World
Hello! In April of 2024, I and my partner Alex will be setting off on an around-the-world bikepacking journey! It sounds crazy, I know, but this idea started as a wild little inkling of something and then quickly transformed into a passion project fueled by so much inspiration and excitement. Cycling is the perfect speed to take in the world – walking is a bit too slow to cover such vast distances, and driving is too fast that everything blurs by. But with cycling, you're able to go far and see a lot along the way and that's exactly what we plan to do I jokingly yet somehow seriously said to Alex, trying to speak loudly to be heard over the rushing wind from our scooter in Bali, that at some point you’ve either biked around the world or you haven’t and I really want to be someone that has. And so we started seriously thinking, researching, watching, and learning all we could about a bikepacking journey of this scale.
It’s not like we knew nothing. Our first real trip together was a cycle trip from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria – taking us over some beautiful terrain, staying in charming guest houses, and truly being alone on the road as it was winter and not at all busy. Alex has done some further touring, cycling around Ireland, and other multi-day trips. So we felt like we had a fairly competent launching-off point, and we just took it from there.
Now, it’s some 10 months later. We’ve been back in the US, training, preparing, researching, and then some. And now we’re nearly a month away from our departure date. I couldn’t be more excited to hit the road in a new way and I’m stoked to share the journey with you too!
